New Accomplishments

I love the steep learning curve that Elijah is on! I feel like every couple days he's doing new things! In the last week, he's been keeping his head up a lot longer during tummy time. He's also started grabbing things (mainly the burp cloths) and pulling them to his mouth (mostly to chew on his own fingers that just happen to be wrapped around something). Here are some pictures of his new accomplishments:I've just started trying to entice him to play with soft toys. He's been batting at noise-making toys, but now that he's grabbing things, these are a fun possibility! He kept his head up for so long the first day I introduced these. He really was studying them!!

Precious! Jewel also enjoys his time on his blanket, on his back or on his tummy. I really have to work on keeping her off his blanket, but she's improving! She's allowed to lick only his feet. :)
Elijah has also started sitting in the bumbo chair. He leans to the side rather awkwardly, but he'll just improve as he gets more practice sitting.

Elijah's Video Debut!!!

We've been working on how to get video from the camera to the internet...I think we may have finally figured it out! I hope you can watch this video! It's precious-Elijah was copying James! And then yesterday we skyped with my dad and Elijah was copying him sticking his tongue out, over and over. I get such a kick out of watching him learn and grow!!! :)

Furniture Project

I recently took on a big project. Well, big for me! I don't usually redo pieces of furniture! But I was inspired by a blog I just started following and thought, "I can change this!"'s how we began:
My Aunt Sara offered us this hutch several years ago. She brought it down to us just this summer (it's hard to make time to do the drive with the truck to haul furniture!!). It's pretty, especially with the light from the camera flash, but it looks really dark in our home, and I wasn't crazy about it. So...I took the doors off and painted it...
and added pretty scrapbook paper to the back of each shelf.

Final product:

I'm excited! I think we may put it in the kitchen so it can stand against the red wall and POP! Plus, the curtains in there are the black and cream toille pattern like the paper on the shelves. Hooray!

And just for fun, a picture of me and Elijah this weekend:

Recent Fashion Accessories

James and I recently pulled out the Baby Bjorn carrier we were given and gave it a shot. It's GREAT!!! Elijah can either face in or out, and he doesn't mind sleeping facing either way. It leaves our hands free, which has allowed us to lunch at a restaurant with friends, go grocery shopping, and run lots of other errands. It's SO hot these days we hate to leave him in the bucket seat/infant carrier because he gets soooo sweaty! We've decided to call this carrier Joey because it's like a kangaroo carrying her baby in front of her!

Cowboy Boot Socks:

James' mom gave us several pairs of these adorable socks! James informed me that they do NOT need to match whatever other clothes Elijah happens to be wearing. Cowboy boots, I'm told, go with any outfit! *I have also been repeatedly informed that boys do not wear "outfits." Sorry, honey. I wasn't sure what else to call it!*

Cloth Diapers:

These are working real well! I had trouble with them leaking for a while, and I still have some problems, but much less frequently now. I'd like to blame the diapers for the fact that we're at 10 1/2 weeks but about to move into 3-6 month clothes, but I know it's not entirely the fault of the diapers!! Such a cute little man!!

Elijah and I both feature spit-up as part of our daily get-up these days! Just moments after this picture was taken, Elijah spit up. I could feel the warm liquid running down the inside of my shirt...lovely!!!

You're never fully dressed without a smile! Cheers!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I wish.

I've been bitten by the winter bug, all of a sudden! Yesterday I started thinking about cooler temperatures, walks outside in weather below 90 degrees, fall colors and smells, Christmas music and decorations, etc. I got so happy and now I can't wait! It's August...that means fall really is coming! Fall is my favorite season.

Some day I'd like to live somewhere that looks like this for at least several weeks. I'd sit in a rocking chair or porch swing on our big wrap-around porch and drink steaming hot cider...

Then I started thinking about Elijah experiencing his first Christmas. Wrapping paper, Christmas lights, tree's going to be super fun! Although, since we're moving to College Station in mid-December, I don't know if/where we'll decorate for Christmas!! I think I want to still decorate at Thanksgiving, because we still get to enjoy the tree and everything for those 3 weeks til we move...I don't know! But that's a lot of work, to set up and take down everything twice...we'll see! What do y'all think?
