Ellie in Lights

Among all his amazing talents, James has such a creative perspective and neat photography ideas!  I'm so thrilled to be married to such an awesome man!

Here are some photos he took recently of Ellie exploring some Christmas lights!  Magical!

And just for the record, I sat just outside of the frame and pulled the lights back every time she tried to taste them...which was every two seconds!!  She was NOT in danger of electrocution!  :)

Ellie 8 Months

Our sweet Ellie girl is 8 months old already!  Suddenly, I feel like she's really close to a year!

Daddy's little princess:

Ellie has evened out her nursing, that's going a lot better than a month or two ago.  She loves all the people around her, so she still easily allows other people to hold her and loves to bestow a big, sweet smile on anyone who may look at her!

No major changes from last month to report...still the same schedule, same number of teeth, and same "almost ready to crawl" actions!  She likes to rock, now, in her highchair (which we are discouraging because we don't want her to tip over!), and when she's sitting on the floor!  She still LOVES to jump!

I wonder if she understands more than I give her credit for.  I just remembered that at this point with Elijah, we'd probably already been asking him to wave bye-bye and point out body parts...we'll have to start working on those things with Ellie!  I see how second children can just watch things and store up all kinds of skills that no one realize they have!  :)

Hats & Smiles

People sometimes ask how we get such great family pictures.  Well, we take about 40 pictures and hope for 1 with everyone smiling.  This was a fun little photo shoot so I thought I'd show you the progression of faces.  Elijah was in a remarkably good mood!  :)
A friend made these hats for the kids, so we were trying to get pictures of them in the hats!  :)
Adorable smile, but not really a real one...
So I told him to make a monkey face:

 Which he thought was hilarious!
Then we asked for angry eyes or a grumpy face:
 Which also brought smiles!

Ellie is all smiles, most of the time...
...but it sure helps when you have such a funny brother to smile at!

 Too precious!

What's in a Name?

We realized this weekend that James and I pronounce Elijah's name slightly differently.  We already knew that we say it different from most people, (many people blur the J sound into a Z, turning his name into a seeming combination of Elijah and Elisha: Elizhah (not sure how to phonetically spell that!)), but this was a funny twist!

Elijah has been fascinated by everyone's full name for a while, and learned that he was Elijah Zion Wise EZ (he likes to include his nickname) and that Ellie was Eliana Jubilee Wise (pronounced Ellie-Annah Jubee Wise), but he's always pronounced his own first name as "Ijah."  I was saying each syllable for him to repeat and realized it could go two ways: EEE-lijah or Eh-lijah (I originally tried to speel that Uhlijah, I'm not sure which is more accurate).  When I brought it up to James later, we learned that James feels that it should be EEElijah and I have been saying Ehlijah (long and short vowels, who can keep up?!?!).  The funny thing is that I didn't even think James said it this way, the only person I've noticed who consistently says EEElijah is my dad (shout out to Abuelo!).  But apparently we aren't even sure in our own house how to teach it to our son!  I guess we can keep saying it both ways and see where he lands as he grows!  :)

PS-As he just heard me talking about this to James, he was repeating "EEElijah."  There you have it...perhaps?  And in trying to get my attention just now, he cupped his hand to his mouth and called, "Mommy!  Catherine Grace Wise!"  Hahahaha!

Talking up a Storm

Just a couple weeks ago, I was concerned that Ellie was mostly silent, as far as speech is concerned.  She wasn't doing much other than grunts and squeals, and I thought she should be making consonant sounds like I remember Elijah doing.  Well, no sooner had I decided not to worry about it, then she started talking in her sweet little baby way!  For the past few weeks, Ellie has definitely been finding her voice!  She started with (and still prefers) the standard "ba-ba-ba-ba-ba" but has toyed with some "mmmmmmaaaaa" and something suspiciously close to "dada."  Thanks to her noisy big brother, she has fully mastered blowing raspberries and making loud, wet vibratey sounds!  Things are not quiet around here, but we love getting to learn her voice!  :)

Seven years ago today, James asked me to marry him through the most creative and meaningful treasure hunt...I wonder if we still have the video recording of that day???

One year ago today, we learned that we were being blessed with a baby girl, fulfilling words we felt like God had been speaking to us.`

Twenty-nine years today, my wonderful mother brought me into the world (in the midst of a move my parents were making from one home to another-I often say I was born into this transient life-I even got married while living out of a suitcase...).  Now that I'm a parent myself, I even more deeply appreciate how much a birthday is a celebration for a mother as much as for a child-Thanks, Mom!!!

The Jumping Game

Elijah is hilarious and such a genius.  Naturally.  Here's a game that he LOVES.  :)

I'm behind on my video editing and posting, but here's a fun one from a month or so ago that I don't think I ever shared:
This is Elijah reciting the full names of everyone in our immediate family.  Adorable!  :)

Playing Around

Some sweet pictures from this weekend.  I just thought these kiddos were especially cute!  Look at these adorable faces!

We pulled this drum toy out of the attic last week for Ellie (it rolls away from them as they push it, so it's supposed to motivate them to crawl after it...), and Elijah has LOVED having it back!  He regularly plays drums (like Mr Michael, who plays the djembe at church) and sings-precious and so enthusiastic!  Clearly, EZ has a very appreciative audience!

This is Elijah's standard "silly face" learned from Mr Kyle, a silly (adult) friend from church.  Every time EZ does it, he reminds us that this is what Mr. Kyle does!  :)

Bubbles in the Rain

James got some neat pictures from a fun little outside playtime the other day.  Grandmother Suhr sent Elijah some bubbles with a neat lid that helps prevent spillage (don't worry, if you're super talented, you can still make them spill...).  Here's EZ trying out his new bubbles.  Apparently bubble blowing is a hard skill to master, but he's trying hard!

Ellie is obviously thrilled with the whole situation.  :)
Then, how exciting, it started raining!

We may or may not allow our children to occasionally play in the rain...  :)
Such fun!
