Hot Shots Soccer (Pt 3)

Video removed to conserve storage space

This is Elijah doing 2 of the "drills" for Hot Shots.  The first one is where they balance with one foot on the ball, then switch, etc.  The second they go through this ladder on the ground.  He was supposed to hop through, but doesn't do that yet, but he did the running through part just great!  This was quite the workout for Daddy, too, as you can see!  :)

Hot Shots Soccer (Pt 1)

Elijah had his first day of Hot Shots Soccer this week!  It's ADORABLE!  Basically this is a great chance for him to get to play with other kids his age and build some listening/following directions skills.  It's VERY parent interactive, it's definitely not a soccer TEAM, but just soccer playing and "drills" and such.  It's precious and Elijah loved it!

Here they were sitting on the ball.  Later he did this at home-it's cute to see what he remembers!
Basically James went around with him and just kept encouraging him to kick the ball into the goal.  Elijah loved doing it!  James held Elijah's hands so he'd kick the ball-otherwise he kept wanting to pick it up and throw it!  :)

 Playing before the class started.
Practicing a real soccer drill!  They'd put one foot on the ball, then switch.  Again-adorable!

At the end of the class, they each got a soccer ball patch to put on a shirt.  We may have lost ours in the car somewhere...
This is what we got when we asked him to smile!!!  :)
Videos to come!  :)

Treasured Moments

Some photos of some fun moments around here lately:

Elijah has discovered piggy back rides.  He asks for it a lot, and his pregnant momma does not always say yes.  When Daddy's around, she offers a ride on Daddy instead!  Not sure how Daddy feels about it, but Elijah loves it!

I pulled down all of the books that had been on a higher shelf, and even though we've read most of them before, I think it all felt new to Elijah, and he's spent lots of time in the last week just sitting reading all of his books.  I love how much he loves this, so I've since squirreled away half of his books to hide in the closet and then plan to swap them out every few weeks or something.  That way they'll feel new again and he'll be constantly entertained!  :)  And less messy...

This frog chair was a part of my kindergarten classroom back in the day, and Elijah found it as we were cleaning out the guest room/soon to be baby's room.  He loves sitting it it and it's too adorable to see!
Our DVD player quit (I got it before starting's at least 11 years old!), and I wanted to let Elijah watch a movie while I made dinner.  I can't leave him in the living room with the computer within reach because while he often chooses to obey, it's just asking for trouble.  So I put it on the kitchen counter, and set him up with the frog chair and his cool new cube toy for a footrest.  He didn't actually sit this way for long, but I thought it was great!

Valentine's Day!!!  James and I went out for dinner the weekend before (for free!  Yay gift cards!) but on actual Valentine's Day I made this yummy heart-shaped healthy(ish) sugar cookie fruit pizza and we had sparkling cider (not so healthy) and spent some great time together!  We had an awesome time and I absolutely adore my husband!  I am SO thankful for SO MANY reasons to be married to such an incredible guy!
The other night I opened the fridge to find a sweet little reminder of our helper boy.
See the gatorade container on the bottom?  It's empty and waiting to be recycled.  Elijah took it off the counter and put it back in the fridge for me.  Cutie!

Big Brother

Here a few ways Elijah has been preparing to become a big brother:

He tested the infant car seat to make sure it was still comfortable.
He made sure we had baby powder.
Roo just got her first stuffed animal in the mail from her Great-Grandma Thompson.  Elijah put the bear right into his highchair.
When I got our the camera, he gave the bear a hug and posed.  UNPROMPTED!!!  What a hilarious son we have!!!
He designed a superhero costume.  I sorted through his closet, where clothes he's outgrown or hasn't grown into have been...less than organized.  I found these bigger bibs with pockets to catch food that drops, and he thinks they're the coolest!  He likes to wear all three at once.  So...he has a cape!
 Here's the back view.  :)
He's going to be a great big brother, because he's already such a great kid!

Summer Fun (in February)

Yesterday's high was 77 degrees.  In February.

When Elijah got up from his nap, he reached for this packet on his bookshelf of those sponge capsules that you put in water and they grow into a shape.  Somebody gave them to him forever ago because they're trains, but we hadn't done them because he was so little.  I figured-why not now?  It's SO warm outside I filled a big bowl with water and let him at it on the back porch.

He enjoyed throwing the capsules in but when he reached back for them, they were sticky (the capsule part dissolving).  It confused him!

After he tired of the sponge trains, I got him a cup and a bowl from inside to play with.  He LOVED this, which was funny to me since he basically does this every time he takes a bath.  But oh well!  :)

He accidentally splashed Jewel, and then realized it was a super fun idea.  After that, he didn't try to keep the water in the bowl, but he had a great time!

Here he's throwing the water as high as he can and squealing!  :)
I also brought him a big plastic slotted spoon to stir the water with.  He thought this was hilarious and kept trying to "eat" water off the spoon.  I didn't take a picture of that-oops!

He was pretty soaked when we finished, but it was no biggie-just went in and changed clothes!  :)

Yesterday evening, we planted my new herb garden!  I don't know if they will grow, though the package says they're guaranteed to grow...they're going to live in my kitchen windowsill and maybe maybe we'll actually be able to eat homegrown basil and cilantro and rosemary, etc.  I thought it'd be super fun to let Elijah help, so we got ourselves all situated outside and took lots of pictures!  They were all so precious, so here are a TON of them!

What a good helper!  Pouring the soil into the pots...

 ...or close to them...
 Adding the seeds...
Covering the seeds with more soil...
 The next pot...

He got a lot of dirt on himself.  He was a little concerned about it.  "Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh!"
Daddy let him put the seeds in himself.  He loved it and did one at a time...which took a while.

Then (you were waiting for this, weren't you?) he tasted some seeds.

 Precious little hands.

 We heard a train.

He tasted another few.  You can see two seeds hanging off the tip of his tongue if you look closely.
So proud of the finished product!
This means "I'm hiding inside myself and not responding to you."  Usually it comes out in big groups of people.
 "My hands are dirty..."
 "See?  I'll show you!"

 "Look what I did!"

This is his cheese face.  :)
