Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great pride and joy that we present to you, the newest member of our family.
Introducing our daughter,
Eliana Jubilee Wise
We're calling her Ellie. :)
What's in a name?
Eliana means "the Lord has answered." In 1 Samuel 1:27 in the NCV, Hannah, who's waited for years for a son, declares, "I prayed for this child, and the Lord answered my prayer and gave him to me." While we didn't wait for years for Ellie, we feel like she is, in so many ways, a direct answer to prayer, in addition to being a precious gift from God. We believe that this name helps communicate how very much of a treasure she is, to us and to the Lord! Plus we really love the nickname "Ellie"!
Jubilee, to us, is summarized as joyful freedom. It comes from the Old Testament practice of slaves being released, land being returned to original owners at the Year of Jubilee (some background info here under etymology). Jubilee really represents the restoration of things, lives, people, etc to the way they should be. We feel like the word (and the song!) "Restoration" is significant in Ellie's life and love that her name can help convey that concept! By the way, this is why one of our name hints was the "Freedom" cry from Braveheart! :)
Wise means "Wisdom, craftiness, shrewd, learned, higher understanding" and is of English and German family origin. When surnames were first adopted many people took on the names of their profession "Smith, Carpenter, Baker, etc" Someone who was "Wise" was considered to be highly educated, well experienced, familiar in the ways of alchemy, or possessed a deep connection to the Divine. It is our prayer that we, the current generation of Wises, would live up to and far surpass our ancestors in every way (except for that whole alchemy thing). That our family would walk in heavenly wisdom, not close a blind eye to the sufferings of a hurting world, and share our intimate relationship with Jesus to anyone who is in need of encountering the Divine.
Join us in thanking God for Ellie's arrival! :)
