What's in a Name?

We realized this weekend that James and I pronounce Elijah's name slightly differently.  We already knew that we say it different from most people, (many people blur the J sound into a Z, turning his name into a seeming combination of Elijah and Elisha: Elizhah (not sure how to phonetically spell that!)), but this was a funny twist!

Elijah has been fascinated by everyone's full name for a while, and learned that he was Elijah Zion Wise EZ (he likes to include his nickname) and that Ellie was Eliana Jubilee Wise (pronounced Ellie-Annah Jubee Wise), but he's always pronounced his own first name as "Ijah."  I was saying each syllable for him to repeat and realized it could go two ways: EEE-lijah or Eh-lijah (I originally tried to speel that Uhlijah, I'm not sure which is more accurate).  When I brought it up to James later, we learned that James feels that it should be EEElijah and I have been saying Ehlijah (long and short vowels, who can keep up?!?!).  The funny thing is that I didn't even think James said it this way, the only person I've noticed who consistently says EEElijah is my dad (shout out to Abuelo!).  But apparently we aren't even sure in our own house how to teach it to our son!  I guess we can keep saying it both ways and see where he lands as he grows!  :)

PS-As he just heard me talking about this to James, he was repeating "EEElijah."  There you have it...perhaps?  And in trying to get my attention just now, he cupped his hand to his mouth and called, "Mommy!  Catherine Grace Wise!"  Hahahaha!

Talking up a Storm

Just a couple weeks ago, I was concerned that Ellie was mostly silent, as far as speech is concerned.  She wasn't doing much other than grunts and squeals, and I thought she should be making consonant sounds like I remember Elijah doing.  Well, no sooner had I decided not to worry about it, then she started talking in her sweet little baby way!  For the past few weeks, Ellie has definitely been finding her voice!  She started with (and still prefers) the standard "ba-ba-ba-ba-ba" but has toyed with some "mmmmmmaaaaa" and something suspiciously close to "dada."  Thanks to her noisy big brother, she has fully mastered blowing raspberries and making loud, wet vibratey sounds!  Things are not quiet around here, but we love getting to learn her voice!  :)

Seven years ago today, James asked me to marry him through the most creative and meaningful treasure hunt...I wonder if we still have the video recording of that day???

One year ago today, we learned that we were being blessed with a baby girl, fulfilling words we felt like God had been speaking to us.`

Twenty-nine years today, my wonderful mother brought me into the world (in the midst of a move my parents were making from one home to another-I often say I was born into this transient life-I even got married while living out of a suitcase...).  Now that I'm a parent myself, I even more deeply appreciate how much a birthday is a celebration for a mother as much as for a child-Thanks, Mom!!!

The Jumping Game

Elijah is hilarious and such a genius.  Naturally.  Here's a game that he LOVES.  :)

I'm behind on my video editing and posting, but here's a fun one from a month or so ago that I don't think I ever shared:
This is Elijah reciting the full names of everyone in our immediate family.  Adorable!  :)

Playing Around

Some sweet pictures from this weekend.  I just thought these kiddos were especially cute!  Look at these adorable faces!

We pulled this drum toy out of the attic last week for Ellie (it rolls away from them as they push it, so it's supposed to motivate them to crawl after it...), and Elijah has LOVED having it back!  He regularly plays drums (like Mr Michael, who plays the djembe at church) and sings-precious and so enthusiastic!  Clearly, EZ has a very appreciative audience!

This is Elijah's standard "silly face" learned from Mr Kyle, a silly (adult) friend from church.  Every time EZ does it, he reminds us that this is what Mr. Kyle does!  :)

Bubbles in the Rain

James got some neat pictures from a fun little outside playtime the other day.  Grandmother Suhr sent Elijah some bubbles with a neat lid that helps prevent spillage (don't worry, if you're super talented, you can still make them spill...).  Here's EZ trying out his new bubbles.  Apparently bubble blowing is a hard skill to master, but he's trying hard!

Ellie is obviously thrilled with the whole situation.  :)
Then, how exciting, it started raining!

We may or may not allow our children to occasionally play in the rain...  :)
Such fun!

4 Generations Pictures

We took some four generations pictures during Aunt Sara's and Grandma's visit.  Watch baby Ellie travel around!  :)

This little princess is definitely the star of the show!!!  :)

Ellie is 7 Months Old!

Oh, people!  I must be just the absolute definition of a proud parent!  I just can't narrow down my favorites of this photo shoot anymore!  What a beautiful 7 month old baby girl we have!!!
Ellie weighs around 18 lbs now, and she just looks to be growing by the day!  She is such a cheerful, interactive little baby!  She loves to sit on her blanket and chew on everything within reach.  Sometimes Elijah gets offended because she's chewing on his books that he's trying to read to her...they both devour books, in their own way!  :)
Ellie has been introduced to a ton of new foods this past month!  She loves almost all of them, even (surprisingly!) peas and green beans.  Sadly, she has yet to completely acknowledge her Texan roots because she doesn't like avocado yet.  In time, we hope she will... :)
She is so interested in everything going on around her that she will not nurse with other people around.  I've adjusted her feeding schedule so she nurses 5 times a day now, with two solid food meals.  She still just seems to be drinking less milk, and in a much shorter time than she used to.  I get that she's less hungry with the solid foods, but I still want her to be sure to get enough milk!  Nursing has been a bit challenging this last month.  I got mastitis, which was NOT fun, and just overall she's been less interested so it's been a little bit of a battle.  We had a short period where she started biting me a lot, but thankfully that seems to be over.  We're figuring out ways for me to feed her alone while I still have Elijah with me all day, too!  It's going well, but it took some figuring out!
On her tummy on her blanket, she can turn herself to face whichever direction (toy) she chooses, and it's fun to see her navigate that.  She sometimes tries to push up to all fours, but not very frequently or successfully.
She LOVES to jump in the doorway jumper, and sometimes also tries to jump when you're holding her.  She's hilarious and so cute!  She cut her first tooth on October 11th, a middle bottom one, and we're still waiting on the second one down there to pop through!  We are now less inclined to let her gnaw on our fingers!!  :)
I love this sweet baby girl and am so blessed to be raising her! What a gift from God!
All these precious smiling faces are because her Daddy was smiling at her-you can tell how very much she loves him!  Here they are-ADORABLE!!!

Painted Pumpkins

I hope nobody's tired of pumpkin pictures yet, because here are some different ones!  I mentioned before our awesome babysitter, "Miss Minzie" (Lindsey).  Well, she definitely picked up my slack (we didn't even buy a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch...) and brought over pumpkins for the kids to paint while she was babysitting one evening.  We did a little photo shoot of the finished products.  And yes, even Ellie participated in the painting.  The purple smudges on the back of her pumpkin are her handprints...or maybe we should say fistprints...

This little boy sure is proud of his work!
I think all firstborn children try to boss around their little siblings...sorry, Jen!
Little ham...and then Ellie's trying to figure out how she can eat hers...
Another favorite!!!

Pumpkin Patch

We went to our local pumpkin patch several weeks ago.  It's a fun tradition, and we love the adorable pictures we get of our sweet kiddos!  :)  We also had Aunt Sara and my Grandma Thompson visiting us, so it was an extra special treat!

Here's Elijah being a muscle man:
He quickly decided that the smaller pumpkins were much more manageable!
Great-Grandma showed him how it's done!

This one was all bumpy.
Princess Ellie, surveying her domain.
Her hair looks a little mohawk-ish.  Yikes!
Isn't this a beautiful smile?!
I LOVE this family photo.  Even though James and I are the only ones who seem to be having a good time...  :)
I couldn't pick a favorite of these two mommy/daughter shots.

Chillin' with the pumpkins.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE photos of the two of them together!
Here's Great-Grandma Thompson!

And Aunt Sara!
My sweet family-I am so blessed!
My favorite men!

*sigh* I love fall!  Although it was really quite warm...
